I am reading Mark Batterson's book "Soul Print" now for review. I will publish my review on this book in a few days hopefully. So far it is a good read. It is a book about you but not about you at all he says. We'll see.

Review of the book "Blind Hope" - purchase the book
This book is about relationships of people who care and the simple truths taught by a "throw-away-dog" as observed by us through the paintings made with the skilled writing of the author.
The book lets you peek in on the conversations of the people and learn with Laurie as she shared what her dog taught her.
The book also takes you on emotional journeys that reach both low and high points. You go through times of tears and then of awe as you transfer from one place to another throughout the book.
This is a book that manages to do several things at once. There are challenges to your personal life, there are learning points, places to just sit a reflect on what was happening as well as testimony of God's ability to take the simple things of life to reveal our hearts to us for transformation into the image of His dear Son as we are experiencing healing in our lives.
I recommend the book as one to give to those that have been hurt and see how God uses it in their life.

"The Radical Question" by David Platt
What is Jesus Worth to You?
This is a great handout booklet for the church.
It begins with the description of a meeting of Christians that took place in Asia somewhere. Dimly lit room hushed tones as they talked and prayed. It tells of how the people either walked or rode bikes from the early morning hours in order to get to this meeting. It speaks of how they were on their guard when others were heard around the place or there was a knock at the door. It shows some of what people in other lands have to endure in order to meet together to study the Word of God and pray as well as other concerns of these folks for the flock of God.
In some countries there is a price to pay, and great potential loss for being a Christian but the people are willing to pay the price for the excellency of the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
There is a great contrast seen with the church of the west - (USA). What is Jesus Worth to You? that is the radical question asked and we all must answer for we will stand at the judgement seat of Christ. We build buildings running up into the millions of dollars and cater to the flesh not wanting to be uncomfortable in any way.
I read the entire booklet in a very short time and it echos some of the things that have been in my heart and mind for some time.
On page 52 of the booklet David Platt the author writes the following: "Let's join our brothers and sisters around the world who have joyfully sacrificed the comforts, safety, security, pleasures, priorities of this world in order to follow Christ. Let's join our brothers and sisters who have decided to spend their lives for His glory in the world. Let's join them in trusting that Jesus is, indeed, someone worth losing everything for."
This booklet makes one think about what it really means to take up your cross daily and follow after Jesus.
I will order some of them to give out in the church that I pastor. It will challenge all who read it.

Steering Through Chaos
I have had the privilege of reading through the new book by Scott Wilson called “Steering Through Chaos”.
There are books and there are books. This one deals with the real things of ministry and leadership. It is relevant and it deals with everything from “Turning Points and Transitions to Endurance”. It deals with handling people of the congregation and getting them on board with the vision as well as the staff getting and staying on board with the changes, touching the important points of getting the job done without losing the people who are in the same transition as the leadership.
In our Christian experience the constant is change. The question is: how do we negotiate through all the changes that come our way both in our personal life and in the ministry and the leadership problems that are part of it?
The book deals with the areas that seemingly present overwhelming obstacles to ones success and gives one good instruction on how to approach these areas. It is a timely bit of information for me as far as addressing some things that are going on with me now in the ministry and leadership as we are in a place where we are looking to build a new building which looks like an impossible task for us.
“Steering Through Chaos” deals with the leadership in the ministry with instruction to seek God for all involved and not just with business principles. This is a plus because there is a raft of “how-to books” out there that leave out the pressing in to God for direction in the leadership of the overall ministry, which is more than a business or corporation.
The book takes one from vision to step by step direction to go through to completion and actual construction or initiation of a new phase of the work.
I would recommend this book as a necessary read for those involved in the chaos and challenge of constant change in the ministry and fulfillment of the vision of God.
