Palm Monday….

Palm Monday….

The donkey awakened, his mind still savoring the afterglow of the most exciting day of his life. Never before had he felt such a rush of pleasure and pride.

He walked into town and found a group of people by the well. “I’ll show myself to them,” he thought.

But they didn’t notice him. They went on drawing their water and paid him no mind.

“Throw your garments down,” he said crossly. “Don’t you know who I am?” They just looked at him in amazement.

Someone slapped him across the tail and ordered him to move. “Miserable heathens!” he muttered to himself. “I’ll just go to the market where the good people are. They will remember me.”

But the same thing happened. No one paid any attention to the donkey as he strutted down the main street in front of the marketplace.

“The palm branches! Where are the palm branches!” he shouted. “Yesterday, you threw palm branches!”

Hurt and confused, the donkey returned home to his mother.

“Foolish child,” she said gently. “Don’t you realize that without him, you are just an ordinary donkey?”

That I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus

Philippians 3:7-12(KJV)
7But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Have a very Happy Easter - Resurrection Sunday

Communicate, Communicate, Communicate

1 Corinthians 14:6-9(KJV)
6Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

Paul shows us four ways of communication to the body of Christ by those who preach or teach. In the doing of these things there is profit to the body of Christ and something is accomplished in the kingdom.

Let's look at these four ways and learn from them.

1. By REVELATION
2. By KNOWLEDGE
3. By PROPHECY
4. By DOCTRINE

Revelation involves something given and revealed by the Spirit of the Lord.
Knowledge is information that one knows to be true and shared.
Prophecy is given through the gifts of the Holy Spirit in a known tongue.
Doctrine is shared and is what is established as the guidelines of the church.

All of these are ways that the body of Christ grows in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This places a higher value on UNDERSTANDING than just on mere feeling. Being pentecostal doesn't eliminate the need for understanding and growth.

Our Hope

Man can live without a lot of things but hope is a necessary thing in our lives. It is hope that keeps us going when the odds are supposedly stacked against us. When we have hope we can make it through the most difficult of circumstances.
Today I want to look at seven aspects of the hope we have because we are in Christ.
As a Christian the hope we have is:
1. Unchanging Hope God’s Word is sure. Our Savior is unchanging.
Hebrews 13:8(KJV)
8Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
2. A Glorious or Blessed Hope – The promise of Christ’s return is what our hope is fixed on. See John 14:3 and
Titus 2:13(KJV)
13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
3. A Comforting Hope – In that we are able to comfort others with the same comfort that we have been comforted of God with.
II Cor. 1:3-4 and
1 Thessalonians 4:14-18(KJV)
14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
4. A Purifying Hope – We will be like Him.
1 John 3:2-3(KJV)
2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
5. A Stabilizing Hope – balance and trust in Him
James 5:7-8(KJV)
7Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
Isaiah 26:3(KJV)
3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
6. A Victorious Hope – See the entire passage from 1Cor 15:50 – 58
1 Corinthians 15:57(KJV)
57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
7. An Abiding Hope – which is a forever hope that lives in us.
1 Corinthians 13:13(KJV)
13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

In Christ we have something truly that the world didn’t give and the world can’t take it away.

Friendship - What's it Take

My father-in-law used to say "if you want to keep a friend, never borrow never lend".
Well what is a friend? What does it take to be a friend?
Four things that are integral to friends and friendship are as follows:
1. availability
2. Dependability
3. Vulnerability
4. Responsibility

Then there are Seven "Bes" that are involved with the "How to be a friend" idea.
1. Be real
2. Be realistic
3. Be affirmative
4. Be available
5. Be balanced in your relationship
6. Be growing in your relationship
7. Be grateful

Then there is the most important part of friendship and that is first and formost be a friend of God so it all works together and can be blessed.

Two examples of being a friend of God are:
Moses
Exodus 33:10-11(KJV)
10And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
11And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

and Abraham was a great man of faith and was called the friend of God.
James 2:20-23(KJV)
20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Friendship is something people desire and it is a good thing if it is found. We have only a limited amount of true friends in our lives. Gaurd and protect your friendships they are valuable.

A Battle for.........

Ephesians 6:10-18(KJV)
10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

As I read through the scripture here I see quite a battle going on in the life of the believer. If you are among those that build their houses upon the rock then these battles are real in your life. There are things that are going on to try to rob you of who you are and what you have in Christ.

Some battles that I see are:

1. a battle for TRUTH
2. a battle for the direction of your life
3. a battle for your faith
4. a battle for your mind
5. a battle for your prayer life and focus

But the Full Armor of God is ours to put on and it should be armor that we are familiar and comfortable wearing. It is the armor of victory for us.

Be blessed

The Demands of Serving God

Romans 12:1-3(KJV)
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

In serving God your treasure is in a different place and there is a greater demand on you than in serving material things.

Serving God Demands:
1. Your heart - trust in Him
2. Your eye be single - right focus in life
3. Righteousness - honesty before God and man
4. Integrity - Believability
5. Serving - God and others
6. Your mind
7. Your faithfulness - to God and man

Matthew 6:24(KJV)
24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Walk in the light as He is in the light.

Fly to You - David Phelps

Steering Through Chaos

Steering Through Chaos
I have had the privilege of reading through the new book by Scott Wilson called “Steering Through Chaos”.
There are books and there are books. This one deals with the real things of ministry and leadership. It is relevant and it deals with everything from “Turning Points and Transitions to Endurance”. It deals with handling people of the congregation and getting them on board with the vision as well as the staff getting and staying on board with the changes, touching the important points of getting the job done without losing the people who are in the same transition as the leadership.
In our Christian experience the constant is change. The question is: how do we negotiate through all the changes that come our way both in our personal life and in the ministry and the leadership problems that are part of it?
The book deals with the areas that seemingly present overwhelming obstacles to ones success and gives one good instruction on how to approach these areas. It is a timely bit of information for me as far as addressing some things that are going on with me now in the ministry and leadership as we are in a place where we are looking to build a new building which looks like an impossible task for us.
“Steering Through Chaos” deals with the leadership in the ministry with instruction to seek God for all involved and not just with business principles. This is a plus because there is a raft of “how-to books” out there that leave out the pressing in to God for direction in the leadership of the overall ministry, which is more than a business or corporation.
The book takes one from vision to step by step direction to go through to completion and actual construction or initiation of a new phase of the work.
I would recommend this book as a necessary read for those involved in the chaos and challenge of constant change in the ministry and fulfillment of the vision of God.
God bless you richly,

Labourers Together With God

1 Cor.3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

The church is God's team on the earth to preach the Gospel of the kingdom in all the world for a witness. The goal is set by the team owner and as his teams spread out over the world we need to constantly ask the owner for direction in carrying out His desired end or goal.

If a team is 2 reach its potential, each player must be willing 2 subordinate his goals 2 the good of the team. -Bud Wilkinson

Are we willing to submitt to the plan of God in all we do or are we independently trying to be somebody in the kingdom for our own purposes?
See Isaiah 1:19

"The Holy Spirit is committed to fulfil Christ’s promise “I will build my church”. That is His business. It is also our business and explains the whole vibrating scene of the ministry.

Nobody can destroy what God builds. Nobody can shut a door He opens. The Cross of Christ is the immoveable rock in the history of the roaring seas of mankind. Atheists and rulers have announced that God was dead or about to die. He hasn’t. They have! While inscribing Christ’s gravestone with RIP a hand has been laid on their shoulder and a voice has said “I am He that was dead and behold I am alive for ever more”!

We are late comers. The torch has been passed to us from the hands of heroes, scholars, martyrs, and millions of unknown believers. They look over the cloud of glory to encourage us. We dare not fail them. REINHARD BONNKE"

Focus, Focus, Focus

For the last several weeks I have pointed toward the need to focus in our life and service unto the Lord. Here is a little acrostic with the word FOCUS.

F - First things first
O - Other things second
C - Cut out the unimportant
U - Unify behind VISION
S - Stick with it

This was from Scott Wilson

Revelation Unfolded

2 Timothy 2:15(KJV)
15Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We are 3 weeks into our study of the book of Revelation and it is so very interesting. I bought a digital recording device and used it for the first time last night. I played back the recording today and it came out great. I will record each of the sessions as we go along in the study and make a CD of the study and it will be made available to those who want a copy for a small cost.
It is the first time that I am attempting to do this so I am hopeful that it turns out alright so we can do this for all teaching sessions.

Be blessed in your days!

Who is Jesus?

Matthew 16:13-15(KJV) 13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Verse 15 is the question that needs answered by all. Who do you say that Jesus is? This so much more than a trite answer by us. We are told to meditate on the Word. If we do that then the teacher of teachers will lead us into all truth. The revelation of Jesus Christ and the importance He has in the over all eternal plan of God for us is so vital and the church labors on so many superficial things that never touch the enormous reality of the work of Christ. We need to focus on those things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father.

Colossians 3:1-4(KJV)
1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

These few things are meant to cause you to begin to search out the fullest answers through the scriptures.

Blessings on Ya!

The Most Precious Things

Proverbs 4:1-10(KJV)
1Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

Wisdom and understanding are the most precious things over silver and gold. These carry you in life and cause you to excel.

Resurrection – life necessary

Glamour Shots in the Plaza Bonita Shopping Mall in National City, California, offered a
Mother’s Day special one year. “Can I give her a Mother’s Day to remember?”, the ad
read. “Yes, you can.”
Glamour Shots gave good ol’ Mom a new face fashioned by professional photographers
and make-up artists. (The Oprah Winfrey show recently bestowed such a paint-over on
an Encinitas, California resident. Coast News, January 22, 2010) From her existing
features they created dramatic changes that pleased the eye. It certainly proved the value
of paint over old surfaces.
That stirred a thought: Jesus does for our soul in conversion what Glamour Shots does
for the human face, but with significant differences. He uses MAKE-OVER, not MAKEUP,
to achieve our spirit’s renewal. The Holy Spirit, not liquids and creams and clever
photography, rebuilds us in Christ’s image. The photography may, for an instant, capture
a graceful glance lost in other facial contortions, but the Holy Spirit captures all that’s
pleasant and positive about us. And his changes last a lifetime, not hours; for experience
by experience in real life, not from a staged performance in a studio with lights adjusted
to a romantic instant and people of camera-skill freezing the instant good ol’ Mom might
seldom or ever have again.
Glamour Shots makes us what we usually are not; Jesus what we can always be. They
change us into something we wish we could keep; he into something we can’t ever lose.
They turn human reality into illusion; he turns human potential into divine realities. They
do it to show a better side of self; he to make a show-window of his Glory, Grace and
Truth. They paint or brush on what soap and water remove; he penetrates us to saturation
with holiness impervious to contamination. Under Glamour Shots make-up exists
someone who may not be pleasant once it’s removed. In Christ’s make-over exists a
permanent winsomeness.
Why be MADE-UP when we can be MADE-OVER? Why settle for what will only
amuse our friends when Christ gives what astonishes them? Why offer only what WE
ARE when Christ reveals through us what HE IS? Why tolerate a momentary freedom
from normal appearance when Christ wants to give us an entirely new life now and,
ultimately, an incredibly new body to house it?

Quiet and There Alone!

Matthew 14:22-23(KJV)
22And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Busy, Busy, Busy

We live in a world full of "noise". Our days are filled with it from sun-up to sun-down. IPods, ears plugged in, heads filled with noise, cellphones everywhere you go, CDs in the vehicles, now DVDs in our vans etc., Turn on the radio, tv or whatever to get the latest news, music or weather..hurry here, rush there with schedules that don't quit. People seemingly need to be entertained everywhere they go. Even in church it is "Entertain me". This is our world today it would seem.

Let me ask you some questions. What does silence sound like? Do you have a quiet time with the Lord where you are alone with Him during your day? Are you afraid to be alone with your own thoughts?

We all need a time alone with God so we can hear from heaven and have our minds renewed so we are not conformed to this world and know what the will of God is.

Even our bodies need down time to renew as well as our minds so Draw near to God and experience Him drawing near to you.

Just as Jesus after a busy, busy day took the time to draw near to the Father in prayer so should we do as He has shown us to do as the one we are following after.

These are some thoughts from my Sunday morning sermon 2-28-10.

Be blessed in you day!
